Every girl feels a unique bond with the movie "The Devil Wears Prada." The glamorous NYC, the competitive fashion industry, and being part of an exclusive circle were aspects we cherished. I've experienced this connection many times with "Sex & the City" and "The Devil Wears Prada." There's something about the fast-paced life of New York City and being among the elite that perfectly captured my interest and it's shadows: something that influences the 'why', 'how' and 'what does it mean if I like movies like this' but I am neither curious to know or explore these because honestly somethings do not need to have deeper meanings and all we kind of need to do is live.
Devil Wears Prada was a hearty and feel-good movie which I needed on the day when my job ended. My ex-manager was indeed a devil who, instead of Prada, wore everyone's patience and sometimes Decathlon stuff. Lord, that woman drained me.
Nevertheless, seeing Andy and Miranda's relationship is always such a fun experience. I think that it is the type of work chemistry we admire/seek in a leader at times (without Miranda's very negative quirks that would not survive in the real world, to be honest). The small push and pull with somebody who challenges you and doesn't just serve you all the information on a plate. I like that.
I realised that I had forgotten a lot of intricate details about the story, such as the assistant 1 and 2 theory, the love life of Andy, and STANLEY TUCCI? He was there the whole time, how come I never realized this? I was trying to catch up to the laughs and giggles in the theatre as people pieced together the references from the first movie, and I just did some social loafing by joining in with a bit of laughing (though for a fully sold-out theatre, the audience was very well-behaved in the theatre, I must say).
We got a free glass of white wine as it was the first screening in Berlin, and I gulped it within the first 15 minutes of the movie. I mean, the popcorn and cola were waiting for me next, and I only have two hands.
We dove deep into the movie with a lot of laughs, feel-good comedy, and seeing familiar faces (I crave familiarity in TV and movies), and though it is per se a 'girly' movie, Alex really liked it as well. It wasn't deep to a point that, had you not seen the first part, you would be completely clueless, and it wasn't so superficial that you would check your watch to see how much time is left.
It was just perfect, and I know that there will be critics, haters, lovers, and ignorers for the movie, but sometimes a movie like this is what you need after your job is over, free white wine is in hand, and for 2 hours all you care about is the superficial, made-up, glamorous world of NYC fashion space.
