It started with the song "Houstatlantavegas" in my bedroom, where I fell in love with the music of Drake (and Cheryl Cole as well). On my black jumbo speakers that my parents couldn't find a room for, I was lucky enough to create a space for them in front of my pink wall.

With "Houstatlantavegas," it was the bass that created a whole new world for me, and as a punk rock and country music-loving girl, all I had was a genuine curiosity about how something could sound so good.

There is always a before you and after you when it comes to discovering bass, because once you do discover a good bass sound, there is really no going back.

Drake is special to me because of his conversational lyrics. They are things that one would often think about and discuss within their mind or go back and forth with themselves. You have to go through his discography to discover which song will be a friend to you in each phase of life.

Houstatlantavegas stayed with me for a while when I needed to discover bass and understand how an artist and co-writers can write conversational lyrics.

"Marvin's Room" became my jam while walking back on lonely, cold nights alone in St. Gallen, with stars in the sky and the smell of grass in the air.

"Hours in Silence" became a glittery lights and jet-setting the world song that was the track of my life while living in Boston.

Smell and song define the months and phases of my life. Musk and Drake have defined quite a lot of them, actually.

I love the lyrics, I like the vibe, I appreciate the topics, and I admire the aesthetics.

There is a thing, though: we tend to think that if we like someone's music, then we like the artist as well, and it is not really true for me. I have a feeling that if I met Drake in person, he might not like me. But it is something that I never really think about (it is the same for Doja Cat). I have learned the art of separating art from the artist, and it is quite peaceful like that.

So, one day before my birthday, on 11th September, I will see him live at the Uber Arena in Berlin, and I am so excited about what it will sound like and how the bass will feel out of the bedroom and in an arena while keeping my fingers crossed that the crowd will be nice. Will the hours of silence bring back the memories, and will we groove the whole night to the songs we never knew existed and that would define the next phases of life?

That is what I love about music: it makes the exciting even more excitable 😉
